Many families have asked me about therapists for post-partum
depression, preschool and elementary school age child issues, and

open to parenting practices such as extended breastfeeding and cosleeping.

Mary
L. Obata, M.A. is a Marriage and Family Therapist Intern (IMF
37700) at The Inner Path, A Center for Women's Wellness in Kensington.
She works with individuals, couples, and groups and offers an affordable
fee. Her experience as a mother led to a special interest in working
with pregnancy and postpartum issues and she practices attachment
parenting herself.
Mary
facilitates "Mothers Supporting Mothers" and "Women
Empowering Women" Groups and her specialties include: self-esteem
and empowerment, relationships and intimacy, life transitions/parenthood,
depression/anxiety, anger management, and trauma/abuse. She uses cutting-edge
techniques to help resolve trauma called EMDR and EFT, which can help women
heal more quickly and completely from losses, disappointments, and
traumas that may have occurred during the birth experience or at other
times in a woman’s life.
She
has given numerous presentations on topics such as: Emotionally Preparing
for Parenthood; Adjusting to Motherhood; Postpartum Depression and
the Range of Postpartum Adjustment; and Balancing Act: Nurturing Our
Families, Nurturing Ourselves. Mary serves on the Board of Directors
of the Postpartum Health Alliance and the Steering Committee of the
Earliest Relationships Network: Mental Health Providers for Infants,
Toddlers, & their Families. In addition, she publishes The

I truly enjoy working with pregnant and parenting women as I believe childbirth is a truly transformative time. My son was born in September 2007 and this journey has greatly influenced my work. I have my Masters in Counseling and I have worked for years with women and children, and families. I enjoy combining my Counseling background with my “birth work” and have worked with pregnant and parenting women and teens as they empower themselves to find their strength, power, and healing.
